


Ierapetra
The Ierapetra of Crete is the Largest city in the prefecture of Lasithi and the southernmost city in Europe! It is renowned for its clear blue waters and its award-winning beaches, awards granted by the European Union. The Venetian Cale castle is one of the most famous, it was built in the 13th century by the Venetians to guard the city and it is located at the entrance to the port. It has one of the most beautiful beaches of southern Crete with gray ash resembling sand and crystal-clear waters, an ideal destination for family holidays. How to Get to Ierapetra and the Departure Point of Archagelos Cruises to Chrissi Island
Ierapetra is located on the southern coast of Lasithi Prefecture and can be easily reached by car or public transport from Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos.

Getting to Ierapetra from Heraklion via Agios Nikolaos
By car:
Departing from Heraklion, follow the main road towards Agios Nikolaos. Do not enter the town; instead, turn right before reaching it. After the village of Pachia Ammos, turn right again and continue south towards Ierapetra. The total distance is approximately 104 km. Road conditions are very good and the journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
By bus (KTEL):
There are daily bus connections between Ierapetra and Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. For the most up-to-date schedules, it is recommended to contact KTEL directly at +30 2810 245020, as timetables may change. The bus ticket from Heraklion to Ierapetra costs approximately €12.
By taxi: The journey by taxi takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes and costs approximately €110–€120 (subject to change). A taxi can take you directly to the departure point of the Archagelos boat.

Getting to Ierapetra from Heraklion via Viannos
Alternatively, you may choose the route Heraklion – Ano Viannos – Myrtos – Ierapetra. Although this route is longer, it is very scenic and offers beautiful views of traditional villages in southern Crete.

Getting to Ierapetra from Chania or Rethymno
If you are travelling from Chania or Rethymno, follow the Northern Road Axis of Crete (VOAK / E75) towards Heraklion and then continue towards Agios Nikolaos. Before entering Agios Nikolaos, turn right towards Ierapetra. • Chania – Ierapetra: approximately 240 km (about 3 hours and 30 minutes) • Rethymno – Ierapetra: approximately 185 km (about 2 hours and 40 minutes)
